The Canongate Youth Project (CYP) is dedicated to providing
a wide range of relevant services to all young people who are the users
of the Project.
This will be achieved by:
1. The provision of opportunities in formal and informal
education, leisure and recreation and personal development.
2. The development of opportunities through youth training,
the provision of youth work programmes, school based support work, individual
support work and any other relevant programmes.
3. The offer of appropriate support where young people
are experiencing problems over and above those normally associated with
growing up.
4. Acting as an advocate of young people on a range of
local, national and international issues.
5. The empowerment of young people through educational
opportunities in order that they themselves can act and lobby in the
best interests of all of their peers. The Project will also develop
its working links with the range of organisations concerned with
young people in order to improve the range and relevance of services
offered by these organisations.
6. The creation of opportunities for appropriate people
of all ages and abilities to take part in the life of the Project as
volunteers, secure in the knowledge that they can operate at a challenging
level with all of the required support and training arrangements.
7. The creation and implementation of best practice guide-lines
in all aspects of our work with young people, (for example, child protection,
confidentiality, and equal opportunities).
8. The creation and implementation of best practice guide-lines
in all aspects of the Projects responsibilities as employers (for
example, equal opportunities, personnel, staff development, financial
management and governance).
