The Canongate Youth Project celebrated its 30th birthday
in 2007 and we staged lots of events to mark this milestone.
On 19th March 2007 we were invited to a reception held
for us at the Scottish Parliament by Sarah Boyack
MSP for Central Edinburgh. You can view here a
short film of some of our staff members talking about that exciting
day, which will take a short time to download to your PC.
On 26th July 2007 we held our "Lark in the Park"
and you can view the extensive photo album of that day here.
In the evening of 7th September 2007 we held a musical
celebration in the Queen's Hall. Among the artistes who generously contributed
their musical talents and support were: Dick Gaughan, Karine Polwart,
Dean Owens, 6 Day Riot, Amplifico and Lorna Brooks. Many thanks also
to the appreciative audience for making it such an enjoyable and memorable
occasion!
You can see a
short film on YouTube giving the background story of the Queen's
Hall event here.
CYP is greatly indebted to Karine Polwart for giving permission
for us to use her song "I'm gonna do it all" on the soundtrack
of the films on this page.

There was also a trip to Mull arranged for our members
which was greatly enjoyed by all. It included rock climbing and a full
day's mackerel fishing in the sea off Tobermory followed by a barbecue
with lots of freshly caught fish! You can view a
short film of the trip here.

Funds were raised partly to stage these events by our
members who packed bags for the public in Morrison's Supermarket in
Piershill.

The remainder of the funds raised was sent to schoolchildren
in Malawi in the form of some 50 backpacks filled with useful school
equipment such as pencils, rulers, school dresses, shorts and T-shirts.

short film on YouTube giving the background story here.
